Microsoft Product Illustration

Overview
I was hired as a freelance Brand Designer and Illustrator in collaboration with Microsoft to promote the launch of their new Surface Laptop 5 line.
Leading a dynamic team, I crafted visuals, branding, and illustrations that showcased their new product line. The project was to conceptualize and design an engaging illustration pattern that bridged Microsoft and Surface visual languages.
Beyond design work, this project also involved managing and sourcing the development of a physical product and documenting the whole journey to use across their social media platforms.
This experience refined my design skills and offered invaluable insights into navigating remote collaborations with diverse stakeholders both within and outside the company.

Research & Inspiration
I delved into Microsoft Surface's brand identity, product features, and the essence of the new laptop line to align the illustration with the brand's ethos.

Conceptualization
Brainstormed and sketched multiple concepts, focusing on harmonizing colors, geometric shapes, and fluid lines to convey a sense of modernity and innovation.

Digital Iterations
Leveraged design software to refine and iterate the chosen concept, ensuring it resonated with the brand and effectively showcased the vibrant color palette.

Hand Drawn Custom Illustration
Every shape and ribbon was drawn by hand — building a custom illustration system that felt warm and human against the precision of the Surface hardware.

Product Development & Brand Integration
Collaborated with textile experts to seamlessly integrate the illustration onto the robe, considering texture, scale, and how the design would translate onto a three-dimensional surface.
Owned the entire production, costing, grading, and fit process with the manufacturer — then extended the pattern system across packaging and social-first brand collateral.

Video Production
Orchestrated a video shoot capturing the process of transforming the illustration onto the robe, ensuring it was visually engaging, informative, and shareable on social media.

Outcome
The design process for "Surface Harmony" moved from research and concept development to design iteration and finalization. Working closely with the client and understanding their preferences and target audience, we created a design that highlighted the new laptop colors and was versatile enough to be applied across different products.
The UGC content produced from the illustration process was a successful marketing strategy, generating engagement and buzz from Microsoft Surface's social media followers.
"Surface Harmony" delivered a visually striking illustration and demonstrated the brand's commitment to innovation and creativity — contributing to the launch campaign by creating a memorable visual experience for Microsoft Surface enthusiasts.
